Registering with Red Cross essential
Anyone who has left Christchurch as a result of the earthquake on 22 February should register with Red Cross and keep
the organisation up to date on their whereabouts.
Auckland Civil Defence controller Clive Manley reminds those Christchurch residents displaced by the earthquake, who are
now staying in Auckland, to register and keep in touch with the Red Cross.
“It is essential that all the people being hosted by Aucklanders and those staying at hotels, motels and temporary
accommodation in the region are registered with the Red Cross.
“Whether you’ve made your own arrangements, are being cared for by friends or family or are in accommodation provided by
Auckland Civil Defence or other agencies, we need to know where people are.
“If you move to another address or out of Auckland, you must also update your whereabouts with the Red Cross.
“Registration and accurate information helps us to take care of people displaced by the earthquake and provide them with
accommodation, health, finance, travel and personal support,” says Mr Manley.
To register, phone the Red Cross on 0800 RED CROSS or 0800 733 276 or complete a form at the Auckland Airport or Manukau
reception centres.
