CBD Cordon Remains Closed

PUBLIC REMINDED CHRISTCHURCH CBD CORDON REMAINS CLOSED – 10 pm, Wednesday 2 March 2011

Members of the public are reminded the cordon around the Christchurch CBD remains closed to ensure public safety and no unauthorised access will be granted.

Civil Defence is developing a plan to allow people to retrieve cars and property from buildings within the cordon.

No decision has yet been made on how this will happen. Further information on these processes will be released through the media as soon as decisions have been made. In the meantime people should stay away from the CBD cordon.

The options for cars being considered:

• People will be escorted into the cordoned area to retrieve their cars, or

• Cars will be taken to a site outside the cordon for people to collect.

For commercial buildings and residences inside the CBD, people may be allowed limited and escorted access to retrieve essential property.

Access is likely to occur in stages starting with the least affected and safest areas.
