Love is in the Air at Redwoods Fun Day on Sunday

ROTORUA 01.03.11: Rotorua District Council’s annual Children’s and Family Fun Day at The Redwoods is taking place on Sunday [6 March] from 10am to 3pm.

This year’s fun day theme is ‘Love and Affection’ with some great prizes up for grabs for those who dress or decorate themselves in theme.

Redwoods Forest & Visitor Centre manager Julianne Wilkinson says people can turn up on the day in costume, or make loveable creations from the face painting and arts and crafts supplied.

“This annual event is a celebration of children, family, and recreation. There are free activities for kids of all ages to enjoy, including arts, story telling, music, dance, games, challenges, aerial crate stacking, displays by Fire Service, NZ Army and the Police Armed Offenders, and so much more.”

Sunday’s event will also introduce the new ‘Youth Zone’ with origami challenges and a NZ Army endurance activity. Adrenalin Paintball is offered for 12 to 16 year olds, though numbers are restricted and parental consent required.

Ms Wilkinson says once again the main event of the day is the ‘Bunning’s Great Go Kart Race’.

“This event is always a crowd pleaser and it’s not too late for locals to enter. Registrations close Thursday [3 March] so people can pop in the Redwoods Forest & Visitor Centre if they’d like to take part.”

While the event is free, raffles and donation buckets will be circulating with proceeds going to Rotorua Hospital’s Children's Unit.
