Youthline taking texts from troubled quake survivors
Young people trying to cope in the aftermath
of the Christchurch earthquake are being urged to make use
of Youthline's national network of phone and text
counsellors.
The Youthline Christchurch centre which is situated on Hereford Street has been badly damaged in the quake, but all calls and texts are being routed through to other centres around the country.
Youthline national spokesperson Stephen Bell says it's times like these that youth need all the support they can get.
"As young people's networks through school, places of study and work are not operating, it is important that they know there is a way for them to talk about their experiences and worries following this tragedy," he says.
"We want young people to know Youthline is here for them and that they can reach out," he adds.
Below are the different ways those seeking support after the Christchurch earthquake can contact
Youthline:
* Youth help 0800 37 66 33
* Free txt: 234
* Email and MSN:
talk@youthline.co.nz
In
particular, young people are being encouraged to contact

pressure on the already stretched telecommunication networks
in the
area.
