Gathering organized to wish Christchurch well
Queenstown has organized an event to pay respect to, and raise funds for, victims of the Christchurch earthquake.
‘Kia Kaha Christchurch’ takes place at noon tomorrow (Tuesday, 1st March) on the village green in central Queenstown and people are encouraged to get along to support the event.
Musical performances start at 12 noon At 12.50pm, there will be prayers to pay respect to quake victims followed by the national 2 minutes of silence. Music will continue for the afternoon.
Organiser Liz White asks people to show support by dressing in Canterbury colours of red and black.
“This is about Queenstown gathering together in support of our neighbours to acknowledge what they’ve been through. We also want to provide practical assistance through fundraising and collection of non-perishable food item.
“Queenstown people have been very generous in contributing the skills and talents needed to produce this event at very short notice. It’s wonderful to see this community spirit in support of our friends in Christchurch.”
Donations of cash and food will be collected by the Salvation Army.
