BP confirms fuel supplies back on track in Canterbury
BP Oil NZ today has confirmed that fuel supplies in Christchurch are returning to normal following last Tuesday’s
earthquake.
BP NZ Managing Director Mike McGuinness said BP had replenished its sites and Truck Stops and the company was continuing
to work as hard as possible to get its delivery schedule back into its normal routine.
“The shipment made to Timaru last week and the re-opening of the Lyttleton terminals made a significant difference to
BP’s, and the industry’s, ability to maintain a high level of supply to Christchurch in the days following the
earthquake.
“A ship discharged jet fuel at Lyttelton over the weekend and this shipment will be reinforced with two further vessels
carrying petrol over the coming week.
“Fuel supplies are not an issue. There will still be some delays in our schedule due to roading safety issues. We ask
that customers continue to show patience if required.
“Of the 20 BP stations in Christchurch, 18 are open and operating. We are doing what we can to get the final two (BP
Connect QEII, BP 2go Redcliffs) open as well.
“Our staff have done a magnificent job restoring supplies and opening our sites, and I’m very proud of the efforts they
have made. I’m especially conscious of the efforts our team in Christchurch given many had family members, friends and
homes directly affected by the earthquake. For them to be able to continue to work in the manner that they did is
fantastic,” he said.
BP is matching donations made through its BP Connect stores and Wild Bean Cafés, with all contributions being given to
the Red Cross to support its work in Canterbury.
Mr McGuiness said the response from staff and customers had been fantastic. “In the first three days alone, we have
raised $47,000 which the company will match dollar for dollar. We intend to make the first payment to Red Cross this
Friday, so we urge customers to continue to make their donations. We know it is going to make a different to the people
of Christchurch.”
