Funds available for Cantabrians for Community Support Events
Getting together and sharing experiences after the traumatic events of the Christchurch earthquake is going to be an important part of the recovery process, which is why Rural Women New Zealand is distributing money for neighbourhood events for those affected.
"We have done a similar thing after previous adverse events such as the first Canterbury earthquake, droughts, floods and snowstorms. It's an important way for people to support each other," says RWNZ National President Liz Evans.
Now Rural Women New Zealand is extending the offer to people living in urban and suburban areas of Christchurch, as well as those in the rural parts of Canterbury.
"These events may not be needed immediately, but people can come to us for assistance in the weeks and months ahead when they wish to take up this offer."
$250 is available for each event, with the funds being provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
The funds can be used as neighbourhoods see fit: for a community barbeque, a pot luck dinner, a family picnic day, or to bring in a guest speaker - whatever seems appropriate for those involved.
