Expatriate Businessman Gives $1 Million to Christchurch recovery effort

27 February 2011 – Kiwi entrepreneur and philanthropist, Owen Glenn, has made a donation of $1 million to the Christchurch recovery effort through The Glenn Family Foundation. Mr Glenn is based internationally because of the commitments associated with his shipping logistics business, Vanguard Logistics. Today speaking from London his thoughts were very much with the people of Canterbury.

“It’s very difficult to find the right words at a time like this. The people of Canterbury particularly but all New Zealanders are enduring so much right now. I feel very far away but rest assured my love, prayers and thoughts are with you all.”

Mr Glenn says he was motivated to give because he is a New Zealander and he wanted to help in some small way.

“I grew up in New Zealand, it holds a special place in my heart and to see such devastation, such hurt and such loss makes you want to help. This donation is something I can do and I strongly urge other expatriate business people to do the same. We all need to pull together and while we are a small country, it is a country made up of people with huge hearts. That’s what gets you through in times like this.”
