Mitre 10 Offers ‘Big Help’ For Christchurch Relief Fund
New Zealand’s biggest specialist home improvement and trade brand Mitre 10 has rapidly responded with an appeal to raise funds for those affected by the latest Christchurch earthquake.
Less than two weeks after it presented the Salvation Army with $150,000 donated after the September earthquake, Mitre 10 has kicked off its new “Big Help” campaign.
“Customers nationwide can donate online at www.mitre10mega.co.nz/bighelp/ or in-store and all donations will be matched by Mitre 10 dollar for dollar up to the first $50,000 dollars,” said Mitre 10 Chief Executive Officer John Hartmann.
“We will then present the Salvation Army with Big Help cards to redeem in a Mitre 10 or Mega store to assist Cantabrians with the clean-up and restoration of their homes and communities. Local communities and the support the Salvation Army provides, plus the distinctiveness of New Zealand, are very important to Mitre 10 causing us to react quickly.”
Hartmann said emergency stocks of items such as tarpaulins, batteries, torches, camping equipment, wheelbarrows and shovels were being sent to Mitre 10 Canterbury stores daily. “Nearly all of our stores in the area are open and we’re replenishing emergency items regularly.”
He said the Beckenham, Upper Riccarton, Bishopdale, Mega Hornby and Rangiora stores were all open. Mega Ferrymead and Mitre 10 Edgeware were closed although Ferrymead is expected to reopen early next week.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with all Cantabrians and others affected during this terrible time and we will do everything we can to help them,” Hartmann said.
