Normal policing continues In Christchurch
Normal policing continues
With nearly 1200 officers now in Christchurch, Police have no problems responding to normal calls for service, says Canterbury District Commander, Superintendent Dave Cliff.
Last night, two men were arrested and charged with burglary after they were found in a damaged and dangerous building in Lincoln Road. They will appear in Court today.
There will be little sympathy for anyone caught in such circumstances, said Mr Cliff. The high risk of falling masonry puts at risk not only the intruders, but the rescue personnel who would have to respond.
With the city now "saturated" with at least 600 local police, 324 Australian police and more than 200 from elsewhere in New Zealand, Mr Cliff says there is plenty of capacity to respond to usual calls for Police service.
Members of the public should not hesitate to call Police on 111 if they are concerned about crime or notice suspicious behaviour.
