Auckland Council launches OurAuckland
The inaugural issue of Auckland Council’s new mini magazine, OurAuckland (March 2011), will be delivered to letterboxes across the region this weekend.
With an innovative new format, and packed full of news and events from across the region, OurAuckland marks an important milestone for the council.
“This is another first for us – a mini magazine with one voice from Auckland Council and an important tool for communicating what's going on in our city,” says Mayor of Auckland, Len Brown.
“Residents have been asking us what will replace the former council newsletters they have become familiar with over the years, and I am delighted to say we can now ‘deliver’ that answer.”
OurAuckland is a 24-page printed mini magazine delivered to approximately 500,000 homes across the region each month. It will also be available in other locations such as libraries, service centres and local board offices.
The A5-sized mini magazine is supported by a dedicated news and events section on Auckland Council’s website (www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/ourauckland), where readers can find extended coverage and regular updates.
“We’re also thrilled to be able to offer OurAuckland each month as a podcast, as well as an audio file, to ensure as many people as possible can access it,” says Len Brown.
Auckland Council Communications and Public Affairs Manager Shelley Watson says, in developing the concept for OurAuckland, the council sought feedback from focus groups and Auckland Council’s People’s Panel, which has over 5000 members.
“Their feedback is reflected in the name, size, content and layout of the publication and, like the Mayor, we’re pleased with the innovative publication and website.”
She says ensuring local content and regional content are both well represented is very important in the new co-governance model for Auckland.
“While there will be an overview of what’s happening Auckland-wide in each issue, we also want to make sure we represent news and events in our neighbourhoods as well.”
From the April edition onwards, OurAuckland will include a dedicated page for each of the 13 ward areas in the greater Auckland region.
