New Zealand Law Society sets up earthquake assistance website
The New Zealand Law Society has set up a website to co-ordinate information relevant to the provision of legal services
following the Christchurch earthquake.
The website, at www.lawsociety.org.nz/home/earthquake_assistance provides news and information received by the Law Society from a wide range of sources, a directory of assistance
offered by the New Zealand legal profession to members of the public and also Christchurch lawyers and their families,
and provides documents and other property-related information.
Law Society President Jonathan Temm says the Society yesterday established a special contact point for lawyers offering
assistance, and has been overwhelmed by the response.
“Since advising New Zealand lawyers to contact us if they are able to help, we have been answering phone calls and
emails non-stop,” he says.
The Law Society is also working on a directory of the status of Christchurch lawyers and law firms, which will enable it
to provide assistance to the city’s legal profession and also to co-ordinate requests for legal advice.
