NZFEC Support for Christchurch Quake
The New Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils Inc. wish to express our sincere sympathies and condolences to all our members, their families and people of Canterbury who have been in any way affected by yesterday’s earthquake.
We are working closely with the New Zealand Police and Interpreting New Zealand to assist the authorities, support agencies and victims in providing volunteers for communications, family liaison, and resettlements if required. In times like these, it is essential that people with limited or no English are able to communicate and get access to information, advice and services — the same as any other New Zealander. Our members in Christchurch are already working at the Civil Defence and support centers helping out victims.
Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers go to all that have lost their loved ones and those who may still be trapped or missing. Words cannot take away the pain, anxiety, grief and sorrow at this time. The Federation, a representative of migrant, ethnic and refugee communities in New Zealand understands and is aware how hard it is to comprehend the intensity of this disaster. We stand together to work collaboratively with NZ Police and other agencies to assist in any way we can on this tragedy.
