Northpower is giving all consumers a line charge holiday
Date: Wednesday 23rd February 2011
Subject: $5 million line charge holiday
Northpower is giving all consumers connected to its network a line charge holiday totalling $5 million – effective immediately.
Whangarei’s local lines company will give its consumers across the Whangarei and Kaipara Districts credits of between $35 and $145.
A credit will appear with the description “Northpower Line Holiday” on March power accounts regardless of consumers’ electricity retailer.
The credits, which are based on energy consumption shown on individual power accounts for the past 12 months, will be distributed to all consumers connected to Northpower’s lines as of midnight, February 22.
Northpower network consumers who use between 2,000 - 15,000 units per year will receive a $95 credit. Small consumers (less than 2000 units) will receive $35 and the large consumers (greater than 15000 units) will receive $145.
Northpower Chairman Warren Moyes says he is pleased to be passing credits on to Northpower consumers in the current economic climate, effectively saving them $5 million on line charges.
“We are endeavouring to make electricity as affordable as we practically can by providing cost effective electricity line services in a safe and reliable manner,” says Mr Moyes.
“This is the best way Northpower can help reduce annual electricity costs for the people who actually own and support Northpower,” says Mr Moyes.
The $5 million is what Northpower would have expected to receive for maintaining and operating the lines, transformers, and poles for nearly two months.
“Included in this amount, is a $450,000 industry rebate to consumers,” says Mr Moyes.
