Selwyn Earthquake 5pm Update
Tuesday 22 February 2010
Selwyn District has escaped with only minor damage from today’s 6.3 earthquake and aftershocks.
The Council received no reports of injury or damage.
Power and water supplies are intact.
Some telephone connections were interrupted in parts of the district but have been restored.
Only one road has been closed - Old Tai Tapu Road between the city boundary and Osterholts Road.
Residents are advised to make their first priority the welfare of family and neighbours.
They are also advised to stay off the roads and keep telephone calls to a minimum to avoid overloading the system
Care should also be taken around potentially weakened building structures.
Situation updates are available on the Council website www.selwyn.govt.nz
