Wellington Region Emergency Management Group
The Chair of the Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group for the Wellington Region, Kapiti Mayor Jenny Rowan says the region’s civil defence capability is available to support the emergency response and recovery effort in Christchurch.
“We already have six staff from our regional team supporting the work in the National Crisis Management Centre in the Beehive and we are working to ensure that further support is available throughout the night.
“Like the rest of New Zealand we’re watching the scenes unfolding on our screens and our hearts go out to the people in Christchurch who must once again deal with a major earthquake event and its aftermath.
“A coordinated response to this disaster will be required and our Wellington regional group will work with National Crisis Management Centre and Canterbury Civil Defence to provide that response,” Jenny Rowan said.
