Plunket advice on reassuring kids following latest earthquake
Plunket says that many children may be left feeling unsure, anxious or scared after the latest earthquake in Christchurch and encourages parents to be patient and reassuring with children, who may have questions about the events.
Some families might be unable to return to their home or might have other people staying with them, and routines for children may therefore be disrupted. Children may be feeling afraid after many months of aftershocks so now, more than ever, the most important thing is to ensure children are safe and feeling loved and reassured – extra cuddles recommended for everyone!
PlunketLine is anticipating a higher number of calls than normal following the latest earthquake, so call waiting times may be a little longer than usual. If you urgently need advice from Plunket please call PlunketLine on 0800 933 922, or if your baby is unwell please call HealthLine on 0800 611 116.
