Cordon reduces Madras Street to one lane

Cordon reduces Madras Street to one lane

Cordons have been increased around the Nurse Maude building at 192 Madras Street because of safety concerns about the building.

Madras Street has been reduced to single lane outside the Nurse Maude building, which is opposite the Mobil service station just south of Tuam Street.

The Council has moved to increase the cordons based on a report received from the building owner's engineer, which raises concerns about the structural integrity of the building. The building was severely damaged in the 4 September earthquake and subsequent aftershocks.

Cordon fences were already in place around the building prior to today's action. They are being pushed out further into the road this afternoon and will remain in place while the Council works with the building owner.
