Promising New Zealand junior signed by SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team

11 February 2011

Promising national junior representative Dillon Bennett has been signed by the SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team.

Bennett (19), who is studying sport and recreation at the Southern Institute of Technology in Invercargill, sees racing for the SUBWAY® Pro Cycling team as a very important step towards his ambitions of becoming a full time professional cyclist.

“I want to be a pro tour cyclist so I’m stoked to have my first pro contract with SUBWAY® and I am looking forward to learning all I can about team riding at an international level.”

SUBWAY® Pro Cycling’s General Manager Hayden Godfrey said he had noted Bennett’s strong results which included winning the Yunca Junior Tour of Southland’s prologue in impressive fashion and some good results racing for the New Zealand Junior team in Australia last year.

“He is a very talented young cyclist who is very motivated. We have some good international events this year and hopefully Dillon can put his hand up and make a couple of those squads which would be a great opportunity for him to gain international experience.”

Godfrey says the SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team has its strongest squad in its six year history and it has created some “healthy” in house competition to make event selections.

“I am looking forward to seeing Dillon make the step up and being competitive against the internationally proven senior riders.”
Bennett’s first event for the SUBWAY® Pro Cycling Team will be Canterbury’s, Le Race in late February.
