Kiwi house opens this Friday!
Kiwi house opens this Friday!
We are delighted to confirm our beautifully refurbished kiwi house will open this Friday, 11th February. Our kiwi have been put back in to their gorgeous new enclosures. For this first time, visitors will have behind-the-scenes viewing in to our kiwi breeding operation. During breeding season you will enjoy viewing in to the incubation and brooding rooms where kiwi are hatched and hand-reared until they are ready to be released in to the forest.
The re-developed kiwi house features a state-of-the-art theatre which continuously shows three short movies that visually deliver the relationship between our forest restoration, pest eradication and kiwi breeding programmes. All of this is complemented with a wonderful forest critter display that children will love - lots of creepy crawlies!
It is a fantastic experience and we warmly welcome you to visit as soon as you can.
Volunteers for DOC - new kiwi house and other projects
With outdoor attractions more and more appealing to many locals and people who visit our beautiful region, DOC is calling for volunteers. If you have a passion for the outdoors, would like to go through the training and are willing to donate your time, call 06 3770700 to register your interest.
We will be requiring volunteers to help with our visitor centre and new kiwi house, so make sure you phone soon if this appeals to you.
