Winner Buries Lotto Fortune In Basement
While some winners invest their money, one lucky Coromandel man will be burying his Lotto fortune instead.
The lucky First Division Lotto winner plans on spending his $333,333 prize on building a basement in his recently purchased home.
“It has come at just the right time, as I just bought a house recently and was disappointed that I had run out of money to put a basement in,” says the winner.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning ticket at Bayfair Lotto in Mount Maunganui for Lotto draw 1234 on 29 January 2011.
“I heard that Powerball had jackpotted, so I didn’t really think to check my ticket,” explains the winner.
“It was only when I went to buy my ticket for the next draw that I checked it under the self scanner and it read ‘Congratulations First Division Prize Winner’.
“It had been a long day at work, so I didn’t even register what it the scanner was really saying,” says the winner.
“When the lady at the counter put it through the terminal and gave me the little receipt, showing that I had won over $300,000, I nearly fell over!” he laughs.
The winner plans on celebrating his prize this weekend by throwing a big party and going out to dinner.
“The family are all pretty stoked and congratulated me lots,” he says.
