Cricket Wellington Media Release
Friday 4 February 2011

Wellington Blaze squad for Action Cricket Twenty20 Final against Canterbury

The Wellington Blaze squad to play the Canterbury Magicians at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, in the Final of the 2010/11 domestic Women’s Action Cricket Twenty20 competition on Saturday 5 February is:

Megan Wakefield (captain)
Sarah Bradbury
Michelle Bunkall
Amanda Cooper
Sophie Devine
Lucy Doolan
Allex Evans
Melinda Hodgson
Renee Moffitt
Elizabeth Perry
Sian Ruck
Andrea Stockwell
Sarah Taylor

Captain Megan Wakefield returns to the squad after missing last week’s Action Cricket Cup One-Day Final with a hamstring injury. The playing XI will be finalised on the morning of the match.

Wellington Blaze Head Coach Mark Borthwick said the mood in the camp is extremely positive heading into the Action Cricket Twenty20 Final:

“The squad’s extremely focused and they are aware of what’s required this weekend to beat Canterbury. They’ll leave nothing on the field when they line up against the Magicians on Saturday.”

“While naturally very disappointed to have lost last week’s Action Cricket Cup One-Day Final in Christchurch, the Blaze players have all worked really hard all season to earn the right to host this home Twenty20 Final and are determined to end their domestic summer on a winning note.”

Borthwick said home ground advantage is a great boost for this Saturday’s return Twenty20 match.

“Having home ground advantage and playing at the Basin Reserve is really exciting for us. It’s also [rugby] Sevens day and hopefully we’ll get a good walk-up crowd, so it should be a great day for us.”
