Not So Twisted Knickers For Lotto Winner

Not So Twisted Knickers For Lotto Winner

One lucky Bay of Islands Lotto winner didn’t get her knickers in a twist, when trying to find a safe place to put her winning $500,000 Lotto First Division ticket - she kept it in her husband’s undies drawer.

“I thought if anyone was going to break in and steal something, they would go for a lady’s knickers drawer first as men’s undies are just not as appealing,” laughs the happy winner.

The winners, who were visitors to the Paihia area, purchased their ticket at Paihia Four Square for the Lotto draw on the 15 January 2011.

“I still can’t believe that we’ve won. When my husband read me the winning Lotto numbers, I threw the ticket into the bin, as I thought he was joking,

“Thank goodness I fished it out and checked again!” says the winner.

After a quick phone call to a family member to confirm the winning numbers, the winning couple hopped on a plane to Wellington to receive their winnings in person at the NZ Lotteries Commission.

“When we got to Wellington, we had to call 018 to get directions to the Lotteries Commission. It definitely didn’t help with the nerves,” laughs the winner.

The winners plan on investing their winnings and paying off their mortgage.
