Masterton thinks BIG is good

[January 28, 2011] Mitre 10, New Zealand’s largest Home Improvement retailer, has today confirmed the development of Masterton’s Mitre 10 MEGA and plan to open the new store in November 2011.

Mitre 10 (New Zealand) Limited, General Manager Marketing, Dave Elliott says “The Mitre 10 brand is an amazing Kiwi success story; already the market leader in home improvement with 162 stores nationwide the brand is currently over three times bigger than its nearest competitor.”

The new MEGA store is being built on the existing Mitre 10 site, located in Ngaumutawa Road, and will cover 8,000m2 and carry 30,000 stock lines.

In addition to a wider range of products including an expanded trade offering, Masterton’s MEGA store will have a new garden centre, 193 carparks and a Mega Café by Columbus Coffee.

“The store will be the first MEGA in the Wairarapa, serving not only customers from Masterton, but also offering a huge range of products to the wider region,” says Elliott.

Masterton’s new MEGA store is part of Mitre 10’s 2011 rapid expansion plan, which will see another 10 MEGA stores open or under construction across the country, offering home improvement products and advice to New Zealanders. This is in addition to the 4 new MEGAs opened in the last few months of 2010.

Elliott says “Supporting our store expansion programme has required us to vigorously expand our sourcing offices based in both New Zealand and China enabling us to select the best local and global brands to bring to our customers. We are steadily building upon our promise to offer the best pricing and assortment advantages to our customers.”

“We have seen significant demand for a larger format store in Masterton and we are pleased to bring MEGA to the Wairarapa.” concluded Elliott.
