Lightning Strikes Twice for Double Lotto Winner

Lightning Strikes Twice for Double Lotto Winner

A central Hawkes Bay winner can’t believe their luck today, after banking a $500,000 share of Lotto First Division, says NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.

Amazingly, the win is the second Lotto prize for this winner, who had already won a share of First Division, in a different location, twenty years ago.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, says they kept buying a basic Lotto dip every week after their first win because “Lotto had been good to us, so we decided to keep putting money back each week.”

The weekly habit paid off, with their winning $6 dip ticket, purchased from Paper Plus in Waipukurau, having the right numbers to win a half share of Lotto First Division last weekend.

The winner says their heart gave a nervous flutter when they realised they had been lucky enough to win Lotto again.

“I was excited and had to walk around the house to try and calm myself, and my heart, down. In the end, I sat down and put the jug on to try and settle my nerves.”

The winner then tried to ring close friends and family to share the good news, but no one was home. “I kept getting answer phones, so I just had to sit tight until everyone finished work.”

The winner says they have “still got their marbles” so plans to make the most of this second windfall.

“I would like to plan an overseas trip, plus help out some charities and close family. Our first Lotto win 20 years ago was shared with a few other people, but it was enough to put us on our feet at the time. This win gives me a bit more to play with.”

“I always thought it would be nice if I won again, this just shows that winning Lotto really can happen twice!” the winner said.
