SKYCITY brings Chinese New Year to Auckland

The Chinese community and entertainment seekers from across Auckland will be hopping over to SKYCITY Auckland this Chinese New Year to enjoy the free entertainment and celebrate the start of the Year of the Rabbit.

Auckland’s iconic landmark and beacon of celebrations, the Sky Tower, will again this year be lit for the festivities from Wednesday 2 February until Friday 17 February in red and gold, illuminating the night sky across Auckland for all to see.

SKYCITY Auckland will be dressed in all that is Chinese New Year such as lanterns suspended down Federal Street as well as traditional mandarin tress around the property.

Festivities and free entertainment will begin 2 February on Chinese New Year’s Eve, with firecrackers at the base of the Sky Tower, the traditional Lion Dance, and acrobatics in the main Atrium. Daily Lion Dances will continue each day in the Atrium at 7.00pm and will be joined with fantastic acrobatic shows held on 4 February and 10-12 February at 7.00pm and 8.30pm.

SKYCITY Auckland got behind the Auckland Chinese Community Centre this month, sponsoring the Chinese New Year Festival and Market Day on Saturday 22 January. Platinum Sponsor of the day, SKYCITY Auckland, showcased its Hotels, Food and Beverage outlets and Casino. Visitors came to the stand to win prizes and sign up for regular updates on what’s happening at Auckland’s premiere entertainment complex, SKYCITY Auckland.
