0800 number activated for QLD flood enquiries
An 0800 (NZ freephone) number has been activated to receive and respond to enquiries from members of the public concerned about NZ family members in the flood affected areas. That number is 0800 432 111.
The Ministry has also updated its travel advice for Queensland. (www.safetravel.govt.nz). The Ministry advises that there is some risk to your safety in flood affected areas of Queensland and New Zealanders planning to travel there are advised to carefully review their travel plans as many roads (including main highways and, in particular, the national highway north of Brisbane) and communities are affected by floodwaters.
The Queensland Police Commissioner's Office have advised for international dialling please phone:+61 7 3055 6220. Queensland authorities have also released a 24/7 Queensland Flood Hotline: + 61 1300 993 191. For more information on the floods please see w.
There are over 150 000 New Zealanders in Queensland, many of whom are likely to be in flood affected areas. We have received some enquiries about New Zealanders there but so far there are no reports of any injured or missing New Zealanders. We are continuing to monitor the situation and are in touch with Australian authorities.
New Zealanders in the flood affected parts of Queensland are advised to monitor local media for information about flooding and follow instructions issued by the local authorities.
