Wilson Adds New Zealand Superkart Title to His CV

Wellington's Karl Wilson was the big winner at this year's KartSport New Zealand SuperKart championship meeting at Feilding's Manfeild motor racing circuit on Sunday January 09, the 26-year-old claiming both the International title and the International/National Grand Prix behind the wheel of his Wayne Sproston-owned Anderson/Viper machine.

Wilson was unbeaten on his way to his first New Zealand SuperKart title, claiming pole position in qualifying before winning all four International class heats as well as the seperate Grand Prix title race

Second in class and the Grand Prix was Australian Gary Pegoraro, the Melbourne driver also claiming the fastest race lap of the meeting, at 1.07.406, an average round the 3.033km/h Manfeild circuit of 161.986 km/h!

Third overall in the International class was Wayne Sproston, fourth Aucklander Ryan Urban.

Wilson's win could hardly have been more timely, the Wellington ace working with SuperKart stalwart Sproston on a plan to contest both the Australian SuperKart Championships, and the annual US SuperKart meeting at Laguna Seca, later this year.

Victory in the National class meanwhile went to West Coaster Regan Anisy with a perfect four wins from four starts record from quickest qualifier Greg Galway and Daniel Picard. Anisy, Galway and Picard also acquitted themselves well in the combined Grand Prix race, finishing fourth, sixth and seventh respectively.

In the Rotax Max classes Gareth Playle won the Lights title and finished second to Clayton Merz in the 'Max Grand Prix while Warwick Dunn won the Heavy title and finished fourth in the Grand Prix race.
