Police hope for Happy New Year on the roads
Police are reporting that traffic heading toward the usual festive locations is steady but flowing freely, as 2010 fast approaches its end.
Superintendent Paula Rose, National Manager Road Policing, says the 2010 road toll stands at 372 so far.
“With the countdown to midnight, Police are working hard to make every journey a safe journey for everyone using our roads,” she says.
“Road safety is everyone's responsibility and Police would like to acknowledge the very safe driving behaviour of the majority of road users.”
Superintendent Rose says feedback from staff throughout the country has been positive in terms the way people have been driving these holidays.
“Although there have been incidents of poor driving and decision making, these have been isolated.”
Police want to remind everyone travelling over the new year to watch your speed and following distances, make sure you have a sober driver, and take care of yourself and others.
