Ease up on the drink and have a safe start to the New Year
Mayor Ray Wallace , Hutt Safe City Inc and Safe Hutt Valley are encouraging people to plan holiday celebrations to make sure everyone gets home safely.
“There is a lot of socialising at this time of the year and a bit of planning goes a long way to make sure everyone has a good time and no one ends up drunk and hurting themselves or others,” said Mayor Ray Wallace .
“There are a few simple things we can all do, such as making sure there is food at parties, having low alcohol and non-alcohol options, and doing something fun so get-togethers are not all about drinking.”
“This time of year is about spending time with family and friends so we need to do all we can to look out for each other.”
Safe Hutt Valley has a few tips for people hosting social occasions to help their guests ease up on the drink:
Food – provide guests with substantial food early on and throughout the gathering. Asking people to bring a plate is a great way to get everyone involved.
Drink options – have a range of interesting non-alcohol options so people have a choice about what they drink.
Have fun – get out old sports gear or party games and encourage everyone to have a go.
