The holiday road toll stands at two

The holiday road toll stands at 2 with two deaths experienced overnight.
At around 9.30 pm last night a 44 year old female was killed when her vehicle left the road in Bush Road, Mosgiel. The driver was the sole occupant and no other vehicles were involved. Police are conducting inquiries into the cause of the crash.
A second tragedy occurred in the early hours of Christmas morning in Helvitia Road, Pukekohe. A 40 year old male pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a car just after midnight today. The vehicle left the scene and Police are urging the driver to come forward. Inquiries are continuing.
The official holiday road toll runs from 4pm on Friday 24 December 2010 until 6am Wednesday 5 January 2011. Last year 13 people lost their lives on the roads during the holiday period. At the same time last year there has only been one death recorded.
