Woman prefer tradesmen over princes and millionaires
Australian women would much rather marry a tradie than a prince, a new survey by The Australian Women's Weekly has
found. The survey of 1000 women found that Australian ladies also say they would take a tradesman over a millionaire, an
actor or sportsman.
Editor-in-chief Helen McCabe told Australian television "Australian women are very down to earth and that's reflected in
this result. We like to admire royal romances from afar, but most realise it is not a realistic lifestyle.”
Jeremy Wyn-Harris, director of Builderscrack.co.nz, a site where homeowners find tradespeople, said that he would expect
the same results if the survey was carried out in New Zealand, as kiwi woman also tend to admire the hard working
straight talking ethos most kiwi tradesmen are known for.
While it may be rare, it is possible to fall in love over home repairs. “While there may be more, we are aware of one
marriage that has resulted from women using Builderscrack.co.nz. However, given that over 6,000 people have found
tradespeople using the site, this suggests the chances of falling for a tradesperson who comes to do work for you are
pretty low” said Wyn-Harris. “A Wellington woman wrote to us earlier this year thanking us for helping her find a good
plumber, who became her husband, who she met in 2008 when he came to install a new shower and vanity unit. Apparently
she was smitten as soon as she opened the door, and called him a week after the job was complete to ask him for a
coffee. Six months later they are engaged. It is a stroke of luck, as four plumbers expressed an interest in doing her
job, so she clearly chose well.”
