Generous gifts given at GLOW
Generous Aucklanders attending GLOW raised $15,000 to help to bring clean drinking water and toilets to a primary school in Chadakori, Niger.
Over 200 children attend the school, which is poorly equipped and has to cope with overcrowded classrooms. There are no toilets or access to a clean water source. Sadly, this is not unique for Nigerien schools. Consequently, only 30 per cent of children complete primary education. Young girls often drop out of school to get married or assist with household chores.
The money from GLOW will be given to World Vision which works with communities to teach parents about the importance of education for all children.
GLOW, Carols by Glowstick was a gift from St Paul’s Church, Auckland, to New Zealanders.
As part of the event the children of the church helped produce a video explaining their unique version of the Christmas story.
The video quickly became the number one rated clip on You Tube in New Zealand, and continues to be shared on the internet.
It’s just another gift from GLOW and St Paul’s Church, in the spirit of Christmas.
Thousands of Aucklanders attended GLOW, Carols by Glowstick at Vector Arena on Sunday 12 December 2010 Tickets to the event were free, the concert was a gift to Aucklanders from St Paul’s Church, Auckland Petra Bagust hosted the event performed by Dave Dobbyn, Nathan King and many others.
