Wairarapa Police planning for a safe three day New Years operation
Wairarapa Police have met with community partners to brief them on their policing operation over the New Year, including the La De Da event in Martinborough.
The meeting was hosted by South Wairarapa Mayor Adrienne Staples this morning and was attended by La De Da event organisers, Police, emergency services, Masterton Mayor Garry Daniel, Wairarapa District Health Board, the local retailers association, local iwi and other community stakeholders.
Acting Wairarapa Police Area Commander, Detective Inspector Paul Basham says Police are planning for a three day New Years operation across the Wairarapa, with a significant focus on La De Da.
"We have a large number of Police staff coming to work over the three day New Year operation in the Wairarapa from across the Wellington Police District, including extra road policing staff and the Team Policing Unit (TPU)."
"We want the community to have fun this New Year however Police will be out in force to make sure people are having fun safely."
Detective Inspector Basham says Police will be ensuring that those enjoying festivities are drinking responsibly and adhering to the law.
"We want people to make a plan for getting themselves and their mates' home safely after enjoying a night out, which includes a sober driver."
Police will continue to work with La De Da event organisers and other community stakeholders leading up to New Year to ensure a well-planned Police operation to ensure a fun, safe time for all.
