Bigger bangs this New Year’s Eve
Treetech New Year's Eve in Cathedral Square is set to be a bigger and better bash this year with a massive fireworks display from the Grant Thornton House rooftop.
Christchurch City Council Events Production Manager Mark Hadlow says the new fireworks venue will make for a more enjoyable display.
“The fireworks at midnight are always a highlight – so this year we’ve looked at maximising their impact. Launching them from the Grant Thornton will mean the audience won’t have to turn around and the explosions will be shot even higher.”
Hadlow says there will be top entertainment in the run up to the fireworks again this year.
“The evening kicks off at 9:30pm with the incredibly funny and clever duo, Vague As Brothers, who will entertain the whole family with hits we all know and love.”
“They’ll be followed by Singapore Airlines StarFest winners from 2009, Eddie and Cullen, who are extremely talented young men and great examples of future Kiwi musicians.”
Local Christchurch band Studio 54 will lead the countdown and play until the 12:30am close.
The alcohol-free, family event kicks of the Garden City SummerTimes programme of events, which runs through to March 2011.
