Community Trust Lantern Celebration
Community Trust Lantern Celebration
The annual
Community Trust Lantern Celebration, involving a walk to the
to of the Centre of New Zealand, is scheduled for Saturday
night - and the organisers are upbeat in spite of forecast
rain.
Nelson City Council festivals producer Sophie Kelly said a decision on cancellation would be made on Saturday lunch time, however she said she hoped that wouldn¹t eventuate.
³We can¹t postpone this event we just have to cancel it so we really don¹t want to disappoint people,² she said. ³We get really accurate weather advice from local forecaster John Mathieson and we¹ll be talking to him on Saturday morning.²
Ms Kelly said Nelson Weather gave great advice at last year¹s Masked Parade when all the other forecasts were for rain.
³John predicted we¹d get a window of fine weather and at this stage he¹s saying the same about Saturday night he told us fortune favours the brave¹ and that proved to be true!²
If the Lantern Celebration is cancelled it will be advertised on local radio, the festival website www.nelsonfestivals.co.nz and with an answer-phone message at 54 60 212.
The Community Trust Lantern Celebration is scheduled for 8-10pm, with a lantern making workshop at the Suter from 5.30pm. It is part of Summer in Nelson, presented by the Nelson City Council as a celebration for locals and an attraction for visitors.
