Serious Crash North Of Waikanae

Kapiti Police attended a serious motor vehicle crash at about 1.44am, on Sunday the 12th December 2010, on State Highway One, north of WAIKANAE.
A young male in his late teens/early twenties was walking north out of Waikanae when he has ended up in the path of a north bound Mitsubishi light van. They collided at the right front corner of the vehicle.
The male pedestrian suffered critical injuries and was air lifted to Wellington Hospital where he is currently in I.C.U. The driver and passenger of the Mitsubishi vehicle were shaken but not injured.
The injured male is still to be identified, and Kapiti Police would appreciate hearing from any one who may be able to assist.
The injured male was wearing a white patterned hooded zip front surf style fleece lined jacket, a blue baseball cap, blue jeans and a pair of black and grey camouflage patterned Globe shoes. He appears of European descent, and of medium build.
Kapiti Police would also like to hear from any motorists travelling through this area around that time that may have seen the male, or driven through the scene prior to emergency services attending.
