West Coasters Facing Tax Trouble Should Get In Touch With IRD
People and businesses are being encouraged to contact Inland Revenue about any difficulties they may have in meeting their tax obligations as a result of the Pike River mine disaster.
Inland Revenue Group Manager, Assistance, Charles Ronaldson, said Inland Revenue appreciates the devastating effect the tragedy has had on the Greymouth community and the wider region.
“We understand that some people and businesses may face difficulty paying or filing by their due dates.”
“Anyone in this situation should contact Inland Revenue. We have provisions available to assist, including the removal of late filing and late payment penalties and possible instalment arrangements,” he said.
“We can look at recalculating provisional tax payments based on changes in individual circumstances.”
Mr Ronaldson urges people to discuss any issues they might have with PAYE payments, student loan, child support, Working for Families Tax Credits, KiwiSaver deductions, or employer KiwiSaver contributions.
“We will take a sympathetic approach.”
Businesses or individuals wanting to talk to Inland Revenue can call us on 0800 473 566 - and will also find information on our website
