Scorching summer line up announced for Waitakere Sounds 2011

Waitakere Sounds is West Auckland’s FREE music in parks series and this year’s programme yet again delivers some of the hottest acts in Aotearoa right to your westie backyard! Ground-stomping reggae, emerging pop and rock bands, popular hits from an 80’s diva and driving DJ dub beats feature across the four concerts.

We kick off on Waitangi Day in Henderson Park with four of the most electrifying and energetic live bands around, The Earlybirds, Autozamm, all girl outfit Ivy Lies and local heroes Mile High. This concert guarantees to rock your Waitangi Day world.

Henderson Park is also the venue on Sunday 20 February, when NZ reggae icons, Katchafire pump out songs from their new album On the Road Again as well as all your old faves. With support from the exhilarating funk / reggae band Soljah, this is one mean line up.

Sunday 6 March sees iconic kiwi hits with the much loved Debbie Harwood in Luckens Reserve, West Harbour. Founding member of the 80’s phenomenon When the Cats Away, Debbie went on to forge a successful solo career and continues to delight audiences with her ‘Band of Gold’. Debbie is joined on the bill by the magical award-winning songstress Janine Foster.

We wrap up the series on Saturday 12 March with George FM at Harbourview Reserve, Te Atatu Peninsula. Digital heaven on your doorstep with two of the most renowned DJs in the country, Dick (Magik) Johnson and Bevan Keys. In hot demand in nightclubs here and abroad, they will be sticking the sunnies on so we can enjoy those driving beats in the great outdoors of Te Atatu Peninsula. Woop woop!

“This is the 6th annual Waitakere Sounds” says event producer Ayliss Ripley “and of course it is now brought to you by the shiny new Auckland Council. Make sure you get out and show your support for these locally focussed family events. Lock in the dates, bring the chilli bins, bean bags and the whanau… and don’t forget the sunscreen!”
