Wairarapa Police Pay Parade to celebrate staff achievements
Wairarapa Police are celebrating achievements of their staff at their annual Pay Parade this afternoon.
Acting Wairarapa Area Commander Detective Inspector Paul Basham says two officers will today receive a commendation from the Police Commissioner Howard Broad (Constables Dave Drummond and Laura Rhymer).
The pair is being recognised for their actions and quick thinking in saving the life of a teenager in February 2006.
"We're also presenting an Area Commander Commendation to local surfer Troy Bramley who rescued a diver near Cape Palliser recently. The quick-thinking and bravery of Mr Bramley saved the diver's life and Police believe these actions should be commended."
Five staff will also receive long service awards, and four will be presented with a Diploma in Police Workplace Practice.
Detective Inspector Basham says Pay Parades date back two centuries when officers were required to assemble in their 'number one uniform' and then march to the local office of the magistrate. They would then be inspected and then handed their pay. Of course, Police don't do this anymore, but the idea has been developed to now include both Award and Medal presentations."
Staff recieving long service awards include:
- Tania Simpson (21 years)
- Detective Sergeant Rick Joblin (21 years)
- Constable Mia Walton (14 year medal)
- Sergeant Mike Sutton (14 year medal)
- Constable Nigel Nelson (14 year medal)
Certificate of Commendation:
- Sergeant Kevin Basher
Diploma in Police Workplace Practice:
- Constable Miranda Cooper-Grundy
- Constable Tim Leeper
- Constable Michele Clarke
- Constable Andrew Stringer
