Kiwi’s breaking the silence, and breaking the siege
Members of the Kia Ora Gaza team will be in Wellington on Monday 6 December to report back on their trip to Gaza to the
local public, in a presentation called "Voices from Gaza."
In September, Kia Ora Gaza sent a six-person team as part of the Viva Palestina 5 aid convoy to Gaza. The Kiwi team was
funded by public donations, and their task was to deliver desperately-needed medical and educational supplies, and to
convey a strong message of international solidarity.
As they travelled through Europe, Turkey and Syria the team met many thousands of Palestinian refugees forced to flee to
other countries, and who are desperate to return to their homes. On arrival in Gaza they met many thousands more trying
to stay in their homes and suffering incredible privations as a result of continued Israeli military attacks, and an
economic blockade.
The day after the convoy arrived in Gaza, the Israeli Embassy in Wellington said: “Israel stresses again that there is
no lack of any goods in Gaza and certainly no humanitarian crisis whatsoever.”
