Millbrook house wins National Show Home of the Year

Queenstown’s Millbrook Resort continued its great run of property success on Saturday (27 November), when its Coronet Square show home picked up the James Hardie National Show Home of the Year Award at the 2010 Master Builders Awards.

Built by Arrowtown-based company AJ Saville, the show home initially won a gold rating and was named overall category winner in the Southern Division of the competition’s regional awards in July. To win the national title AJ Saville went up against eight other entries at an awards ceremony in Auckland .

The four-bedroom show home was described by judges as “a fine expression of the builder’s and designer’s craft” and they praised use of materials appropriate for the Central Otago environment and landscape.

"This is a show home that the resort owner can be proud of to promote the unique living environment," the judges said.

The Registered Master Builders House of Year Awards is New Zealand ’s premier residential and commercial building awards programme.

Company owner Allister Saville accepted the award in Auckland with colleague and Millbrook site foreman Jeff Long.

“We’re delighted to have been selected from among our peers to win,” said Mr Saville.

“For the company it raises our profile in the professional building sector significantly and puts us on the highest level as to what is expected. For the team, it gives everyone great credit for their hard earned efforts and is a huge boost for our future.”

Mr Saville said he was delighted to see that judges selected the Millbrook show home for the title because of its high-quality finish on interior joinery and stand-out design.

The award is yet another ‘gong’ for Mr Saville for his work on a Millbrook house. In 2006 Mr Saville’s company won the national competition with another Millbrook house in the ‘new homes over $1 million’ category, and also won the Pink Batts Ultra Energy Efficiency Award.

He has previously been a regional finalist nine times and a national finalist four times.

Following the Coronet Square show home’s regional win, Millbrook sold the property to an Australian buyer for a confidential sum. Its subsequent show home replacement has also recently sold. A total of 13 homes are being built at Coronet Square by Millbrook Country Club

Millbrook Property and Development Manager Ben O’Malley said they had been working with Allister for the past nine years and was delighted to have a builder of his standing working at the resort.

“We’d like to extend our special thanks and a huge congratulations to Allister and his team,” he said.

“Our partnership with AJ Saville continues to bring Millbrook great success on many levels and the team consistently performs at the very highest standard.

“Millbrook’s show homes have proven to be very popular and a fundamental tool in the sale of many of our properties. This award gives deserved recognition to the quality of the building, finishes and fittings you expect in a house of their standard.”

The 13 elegant and spacious three and four-bedroom properties in the heart of the exclusive new Coronet Square development have features including double garaging, ski drying cupboards, fitted joinery, solid construction, energy efficiency and a comprehensive heating and water heating system.

Each house is fitted out with the latest appliances and high quality fittings, including a full home entertainment system. Queenstown interior designer Jean Foster has fitted out the show homes, including the one that won on Saturday.

The carefully considered landscape design by Paddy Baxter is one of elegant simplicity with dry stacked stone walls, paving, block planting and an expansive ‘infinity’ lawn running to the edges of the golf course.
