Sexual Assault, Hereford Street
At approximately midnight on Saturday night/Sunday morning (27 and 28 November 2010), a 20 year old female was walking on Hereford Street, between the intersections of Fitzgerald Avenue and Stanmore Road, when she was approached by a male.
This male pushed her into the front garden of a nearby house and sexually assaulted her.
A person in the vicinity disturbed the male while this was taking place which enabled the 20 year old female to escape.
Police located both the female and the male a short time later. The male is in Police custody and will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday 29 November 2010.
The male is Maori aged 41 years old. He was wearing light brown cargo style trousers with a white t-shirt.
The female is Caucasian aged 20 years old. She was wearing a shorter style black skirt and a grey long sleeved sweat top.
Police ask that if anyone has seen either of these two people on Hereford Street at about midnight on Saturday 27 November/Sunday 28 November 2010 that they contact the Christchurch Central CIB and speak to Detective Sergeant Leairne DOW.
