ACC wishes police well in drink-drive campaign
ACC welcomes Operation RAID (Remove all Impaired Drivers), the joint NZ and Australian crackdown on drink driving which
starts this weekend.
“The great work done by Police in deterring and apprehending alcohol-affected drivers means less tragedy in people’s
lives,” said Phil Wright, ACC’s
Programme Manager, Traffic Safety and Alcohol.
“It also means fewer claims for serious injury, as ACC provides the funding for treatment and rehabilitation of victims.
“Case managers within ACC work with road injury victims in trying to rehabilitate them back to full functioning, but
sadly many will never resume normal lives.
“The myth that an-alcohol affected person is relaxed and less prone to injury is absolutely wrong. Work underway by ACC
in partnership with health agencies is showing that a high proportion of people injured on weekend nights are as a
result of the misuse of alcohol.”
ACC wishes the Police every success with Operation RAID.
