Christchurch City extends its condolences to the families of the Pike River miners
On behalf of the people of Christchurch and the Christchurch City Council, Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker would like to pass on the heartfelt condolences to the families of the 29 Pike River miners, and the people of the West Coast.
Mayor Parker says the City of Christchurch and its people are deeply shocked by the events of Pike River and the death of the 29 miners.
“This is an unspeakable tragedy, and our thoughts are with every one of them, their family, friends, the mining fraternity and the whole West Coast community who are grieving so much at this time,“ says Mayor Parker.
“I spoke to the Grey District Mayor Tony Kokshoorn the day after the first blast in the mine and said that Christchurch is here to help in any way we can. The offer stands. We are prepared to stand alongside and support the people of the West Coast in their darkest hour in any way we can. Our prayers and thoughts are with them all.”
