Nelson Opera in the Park

Nelson Opera in the Park

It’s on again – Nelsonians have the opportunity to appear on stage at Opera in the Park in a line up that includes the Topp Twins, Aviale Cole, Ben Makisi and the Vector Wellington Orchestra.

All you have to do is win Nelson’s Got Talent!

Musical director Pete Rainey says in the tradition of Opera in the Park the programme will be wide ranging, and the contest is not limited to opera singers.

“Opera in the Park is a concert with all sorts of music, so we’re keen to hear from people with an operatic repertoire or from singers with a more contemporary focus,” he said. “That said, we are looking for people who can sing to a high standard, and would be able to perform to a large crowd, with the backing of an orchestra – it’s not a children’s contest.”

Last year’s winner Jason Chasland has gone on to great success, most recently in the Theatre Alive production of Blood Brothers.

Nelson’s Got Talent Auditions will be held on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 December from 7pm at The Trafalgar Street Hall, (Old Folks Hall) alongside the Maitai River. They are open to the public, door sales only $10 on the night, and the price includes a cup of tea.

Hopeful singers are asked to bring copies of their own sheet music for the accompanying pianist, as well as a one sheet bio covering their musical background.

Applications close Monday Dec 13 at December 5pm. The top 20 applicants will be notified of audition details.
