Christmas Helpers Wanted!
Towncentre Taupo is recruiting volunteers to help make Christmas extra special in Taupo this year.
“We’ve nearly finalized our Christmas programme now,” explained Towncentre Taupo General Manager, Kylie Hawker, “and we’ve got plenty of opportunities for our local community to get involved and make this Christmas one to remember.”
A major community event as part of the Christmas activity in Taupo this year is the ‘SOS (Shopping on Sunday!) Day’ being held on Sunday 19 December from 10am to 3pm.
“We’d love to fill the streets of the CBD with buskers, entertainers, dancers, kapa haka, and more. If anyone wants to perform in the CBD during the market day, we’d love to hear from you,” said Ms Hawker.
Back again for 2010 is the Gift Wrapping Centre that will be stationed outside Paper Plus on Heu Heu Street from 15 to 24 December.
“Thanks to the generosity of Taupo Paper Plus, we’re going to run a gift wrapping centre as part of the build up to Christmas. We want local community groups to help us run the centre as a fundraising opportunity,” said Ms Hawker. “Basically, each day we’d like to have a different charity or community group run the gift wrapping centre and wrap all the presents. Then people who want their presents wrapped will pay a gold coin donation, and all the donations will go to the charity that has done the wrapping.”
Any groups who are interested in wrapping presents for a day are encouraged to contact Towncentre Taupo as soon as possible.
“Of course, Christmas wouldn’t be right without Santa!” said Ms Hawker. “The Trustpower Santa Cave will be back in Whitcoulls from the 15th of December. Kids of all ages can come up and tell Santa what they’d like for Christmas, and have their photo taken if they chose.”
Other Christmas activities include a window display competition, and the installation of Christmas flags and decorations around the town centre.
