Hastings welcomes 28 new citizens

Hastings will welcome 28 new New Zealanders at a citizenship ceremony to be held tomorrow (Wednesday, 24 November), from 6pm in the Assembly Room at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House, Heretaunga Street East, Hastings.

The candidates’ nationalities are as follows:
Indian 12
Samoan 7
British 4
Zimbabwean 2
American 1
Tuvaluan 1
Zambian 1


Kaumatua, Mr Jim Whaanga will welcome those present on behalf of tangata whenua.

Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule will present each candidate with a kowhai tree, grown at the Hastings District Council’s nursery, to symbolise “putting down roots”.
