20th anniversary highlights services to women
For 20 years, women who have wanted to change their career path but have been unable to do so due to personal or financial hardship, have been given a new lease on life thanks to the Altrusa organisation and CPIT's Next Step Centre for Women.

The Next Step Centre for Women offers short personal development courses such as Self Esteem for Women through to longer programmes such as Updating Skills which focus on future study or employment options.
Altrusa is an international organisation committed to being actively involved in local communities, with an emphasis on empowering women to achieve their personal, career and lifestyle goals. With branches located throughout the world, Altrusa achieves this commitment by developing leadership skills, business and personal networks, and programmes tailored to meet the needs of its members through workshops, conferences and educational institutes, such as CPIT.
November marks the 20th anniversary of Altrusa's involvement with CPIT and to mark the occasion, a special ceremony was held last night at CPIT’s Wharenui.
The ceremony, which was attended by past scholarship recipients, Altrusa representatives, CPIT Chief Executive Kay Giles and Next Step Centre staff also included the presentation of the 2010 Altrusa Scholarship to recipient winner, Marlene Murray. This scholarship includes $1000 towards further tertiary study at any tertiary education provider based on previous study achievements at CPIT.
Previous scholarship winners have gone on to careers in varied sectors such as horticulture, nursing, midwifery, social work and communications.
