DairyNZ Welcomes CRI Statements of Core Purpose

Dairynz: CRI Statements of Core Purpose on the Mark

Tuesday, 16 November 2010

DairyNZ has welcomed the Crown Research Institutes’ (CRIs’) statements of core purpose released today.

“The CRIs provide underpinning research both inside and outside the farm gates of all New Zealand’s primary industries, which means they have a great deal to contribute to our economic growth,” says DairyNZ CEO Dr Tim Mackle.

“As an organisation which is one of the major private investors in research carried out by the CRIs, we’re very pleased to see the Government implementing the CRI Taskforce recommendations quickly.

“We believe the key to success will be the development of working partnerships with those that use and apply the results from the CRIs’ work. While we support the new operating principles, we believe that partnerships must set research priorities that are strongly aligned to industry strategies and needs.”

Dr Mackle says while AgResearch is the primary CRI related to pastoral industry, nearly all of the CRIs, including NIWA and Landcare, undertake work which is important to the dairy industry. “It’s important to work multi-functionally across a wide range of scientific disciplines. We are keen to work with AgResearch and the other relevant CRIs to develop and implement appropriate strategies to support the industry and consequently all of New Zealand.”
